Wow. How did I not hear of this author? This is a darkly compelling work that blows the fiction of Lincoln Child and Douglas Preston completely off the map. Gruber has an obvious and fluid understanding of shamanism and the limits of Western thought. On top of this he has a great sense of plot, timing and overall storytelling. This is on par with Dan Simmons' best work
