Excellent even-handed book on maligned empire derided by Western culture & Greco-Roman historians. Lots of pictures & maps to recreate their history. Byzantine & Persian Empire won equal glory. However, total warfare by late Sassanian empire undermined them both. Never knew Persian empire had other enemies other than Roman & Parthian like Kushan, Alan (I'm not kidding!), Kidarates, & Hephthalites. Islamic empire was really repackaged neo-Sassanian empire. Persia legacy was in us with art, mathematics, medicine, music, carpet, polo, & Persian garden. Explained historical resentment of sophisticated Iran's identity & culture hijacked & suppressed by lowly Arabs like it was yesterday instead of centuries ago.
