This is not one of Silva's best. Good but not great. I have read all of his books, some more than once, so I can claim to know his style very closely. Gabriel has changed a little in this, he is not normally a wise crack type of man, his business not being anything amusing at all. Could it be that Silva has used a ghostwriter here ? After all , it must be difficult to turn out good work, year after year, undoubtedly under pressure of a publisher's deadline. Lets hope this is a one-time aberration, and not the start of a pattern. I don't think Silva can continue to keep having Gabriel as the Chief of the Israeli Mossad, and also be the main operative agent , doing the "wet work" as they call it. He has to be one or the other. A politician he is not. A great ( and ruthless ) field agent he is. I missed reading of his other career in this one, although he did do an art work of the new girl. I also missed some of his off-beat friends in the art world, my favourite being Julian Isherwood.
