In the book with the same title, NINE PERFECT STRANGERS check in to a remote, luxury health resort looking to transform their lives. They each have a personal reason for their visit. Author Liane Moriarty has a knack for creating vivid, relatable characters, warts and all, while slowly revealing what lies beneath the surface of each player. And in this regard with the first half of the book Moriarty succeeds, but midway the plot takes a bizarre turn which strained credibility and unfortunately, derailed my enjoyment. The author redeems herself somewhat at the end with an interesting wrap up of the various storylines. While I didn’t hate this book (it was a nice enough end-of-summer read), it just wasn’t up to Moriarty’s previous standards (THE HUSBAND’S SECRET and BIG LITTLE LIES).
