How could a book written in 1994 seem dated? It does, tho. Apparently L.L. Barrett thought so too when she used the setting, plots, and characters to develop her _Crafty Killing_ series. At least she dropped the "wisecracking" aspect of the heroine, who in 2016 just comes off as a 30 year old woman who thinks she has the right to act 12 when confronted with resistance. I still enjoyed the story and watching where Fowler and Barrett diverge in handling their characters. This is a long series, and I am planning to read it all. Don't let my English teacher critique stop you from enjoying the fun.
