This is the story of Irwin and Mary Trelissick, who, over a century ago, sailed from Cornwall to begin a new life in New Zealand. They suffered a terrible journey and Mary swore she would never set foot on board a ship again. At first, they went to the Molesworth high country, where they endured the isolation and snows. Then they settled in Blenheim, where they had to contend with floods, arson, epidemics and earthquakes. Sometimes patience was short and tempers flared in the tiny cob cottage which they built themselves and in which they reared their seven children.
