Of Poseidon is a romantic twist on your average mermaid tales starring Emma and Galen, a pair of star-crossed lovers. Galen is on a hunt for a certain Syrena who has the gift of Poseidon, the ability to communicate with sea creatures, and Emma seems to be able to demonstrate this quality. However, after the death of her close friend being attacked by a shark, Emma wants nothing to do with the water. Determined, Galen pursues the conflicted teen, and in the process, begins to fall for her. But can Galen really take her for himself when he knows that she is the key to keeping his Kingdom united? I really enjoyed the plot of this novel, and I believe it's the perfect start for an amazing trilogy. Although all the characters were quite enjoyable and the book contained quite a few page-turning twists, the style of narration was a little confusing to grasp and transitions between the two characters’ POVs were a little messy and unclear. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed this book and am looking forward to the following sequels.

Overall, this was a great read! This book includes fascinating mythology, well rounded characters, nice humor here and there, and is a light and easy read. I loved the fact that it switched points of views, so you're able to know what the other character is thinking. Though, it was odd how Emma's point of view is told in first person, while Galen's point of view is told in third person. I'm not sure why Galen's POV is told in third person, as it doesn't include anyone else's POV. I'm gonna be honest here, the main reason why I continued to read this book was for the plot, adventure, and overwhelming discoveries, and less of the romance (Which is ironic because this is a romance book ik ik hahhaa). However, the book has more romance than the rest, which caused it to take sooooo long to to progress.
I'll read the second book, though if it doesn't get more exciting than the first one, I might drop the series.
If you like a slower-paced reads, cute character interactions, different point of views, then you can definitely consider reading this book.

Galen knows that Emma is different, not totally human but more like him. He doesn't quite understand why she has such fair skin and hair, or why she didn't save her friend in a shark attack, but if she is who he thinks then she may be the key to keeping his kingdom from war.
Emma's life turns upside down in a matter of moments. Not half an hour after stumbling into a hot guy on the beach with the same violet colored eyes as her, Chloe is dead. Gone thanks to a bull shark during their vacation. Grief rolls over her as she mourns her best friend, wishing she could've done more, and she finds herself stumbling through classes when, surprise, the violet-eyed mystery shows up at her school sharing her schedule. Trying to navigate between learning how to live life without her sassy bestie, and figuring out why Galen seems to be interested in her, Emma soon discovers that there is more to this life, and more to her, than she would've ever thought possible.
A fantastical story that will wrap you up and drag you into the depths of all things Syrena. I loved it and found myself pleasantly surprised with how much I loved the characters, the mystery, and the writing. I'm glad I read it and I hope the next books are just as good!

If you have time to kill, indulge yourself in this guilty pleasure. The plot is sketchy, the characters can be annoying sometimes, but the romance and the humor are enjoyable in a relatively fast read.

I strongly disliked this book (with a burning passion). I'm sorry for this bad review, but a different perspective just had to be said. First of all, the changing of persons in the narration was really unnerving- it took my slow brain a long time to get used to it. Also, I disliked Emma very much. I found her insensitive and selfish, and Galen just seemed to be a stupid idiot clam with no brains rattling around his empty shell of a head- except maybe OH, EMMA! I LOVE YOU SO MUCH! YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL AND AMAZING BEYOND ALL COMPARE! I WANT TO KISS YOU REALLY BADLY! I am NOT going to read the following books. Sorry, Anne.

Literally the best book I have ever read. All of the books I've read after this one are lame compared to how amazing Of Poseidon is.

Is it worth it? To give up years of my life to be with her? Galen thinks of the curve of her hips, the fullness of her lips, the way she blushes when he catches her looking at him. And he remembers how sick he felt when Dr. Milligan indicated Emma would die before him. Oh, yes. It's absolutely worth it.
