An excellent film marred by a blu ray copy that freezes and skips.

I knew nothing about this movie before seeing it on the library's shelves, which is why I'm so surprised at how much I liked it. Robert Redford is far out at sea when his sailboat runs into trouble and the film then follows his struggle to…

The main and only character played by Robert Redford is lost at sea with very little commentary. If only he'd talked to himself or read aloud more than once what he wrote in his journal it might have been interesting. The only sounds were…

Some may think of this as slow moving, but it is well done and Redford does a phenomenal job portraying the thoughts of the character for the entire film. There is minimal dialogue. Redford is the only actor. We were over-come by the…

Long, boring exercise in futility in which nothing at all is learned, can be learned. Tough to see the once beautiful Redford - still undeservedly handsome at 83, for gosh sakes - ravaged by the elements. Why can't he just play that…

By far the BEST ROBERT REDFORD MOVIE I've ever seen, even though I've not seen a lot of his. Certainly the best lost at sea disaster film I've ever seen! And as much as I enjoyed "Cast Away"; I prefer this film to it because it's ALOT…

Excellent movie taut with drama and deeds. Redford is superb and perfectly cast as the quiet but tough mariner lost at sea. This movie haunts you long after viewing. Highly recommended.

“All lost! to prayers, to prayers! all lost!” (The Tempest. I.i.61)   [All Is Lost] is a 2013 minimalist dialogue survival film written and directed by J.C. Chandor. The film is about a man (played by Robert Redford) who wakes up in his…

A lot of Robert Redford. A lot.

Many in today’s superficial senses-stimulated world would not appreciate this movie. For me it was a good experience in exposure to developing a better appreciation of superb acting . As the DVD-jacket indicates; “Redford gives the…

I agree w htliang (see comment below). This movie was based on a made-up story. If you're going to make up a story, why not make up a good one ? All time was lost watching this one ...

I understand people's negative comments. I believe most people in today's society couldn't sit through this movie. It's too bad. Robert Redford is a terrific actor and he caries this movie solo with experience and excellence. The director…

I watched this movie to the bitter end; an accomplishment to say the least. I don't like giving such a low score - but I couldn't rate it any higher. If this movie had been based on a true story, it might have had some merit. I found…

At the age of seventy-seven Robert Redford gives a powerful solo performance in writer/director J. C. Chandor’s moving story of one old man and a very different sea. When his sailboat is rammed by a rogue cargo container somewhere on the…

Spoiler: First line ever said is in the 58-60 minute mark. Two more lines after that which is about 20-30 minutes apart. Easiest acting job Redford did in his entire life, in my opinion.

I had mixed feelings about this 'very silent' film & not impressed by RR anymore. Much of it was horrific for me, I'm not even comfortable in a pool, let alone on the open sea. Maybe people who know about sailing might enjoy it more.…

Impressive already, it gets even wilder when you start listening to the commentary. This was my first JC Chandor film, and it's just so out there. Meanwhile, Redford continues to be the real deal. Definitely give this one a look.

If I knew this was an allegory before I watched it, I think I would have liked it a lot better: http://www.nytimes.com/2013/10/18/movies/all-is-lost-with-robert-redford-at-sea.html?_r=1

Very unrealistic set of actions and availability/use of equipment by an ocean sailor, especially one that is soloing. Unless they are suffering from dementia, and maybe this is the missing background to this story of survival? The book…
